Machray Animal Hospital FAQs

  • How often should my pet come in for a checkup?
We recommend annual wellness exams for all pets and twice-yearly visits for pets over the age of 10 years, to catch any potential problems early. Apart from these wellness visits, if you notice any changes in the health or behaviour of your pet, it is best to give us a call for guidance.
  • Why do I have to bring my pet in for a prescription refill?
It's the law. Veterinarians are required to have a current Veterinary Client Patient Relationship (VCPR) in order to legally prescribe and dispense medications to a patient. In order to honor the VCPR a patient must be examined a minimum of once per year. Some conditions may require rechecks to re-evaluate the success of medical treatment, and further tailor the therapy.
  • I'm low income. Do you offer subsidized programs for spay and neuter?
Our spay and neuter surgeries for cats and dogs are already discounted, as we believe in the importance of the procedure for population control and for the health of our patients. If you cannot afford the regular cost, we suggest that you apply to the Winnipeg Humane Society SNAP (spay/neuter assistance program).
  • I just got a new puppy/kitten. When should I schedule their first vet visit?
Most puppies and kittens have their first vet visit around 8 weeks of age. We do a complete physical exam and assess for any congenital (in born) problems, as well as provide species and age-appropriate vaccinations and deworming. We are happy to answer any questions you might have about training, grooming, and nail care at this visit.

  • What payment options do you offer?
Full payment is due at the time that services are rendered. We accept Debit, Visa, Mastercard and American Express. Sorry, no personal cheques.
  • Do you offer payment plans?
We do not offer payment plans. However, we suggest that owners look into Medicard for payment plan options.
  • Do you groom dogs?
No, we refer bathing, haircuts, and nail trims to professional groomers in the area.
  • Can I buy dog and cat licenses at your clinic?
No, you must purchase all licenses directly through The City of Winnipeg - online or in person.
  • Do you board dogs or cats?
We do not board pets unless it is for medical reasons.
